Product quality starts with all the effort that farmers put into growing milling oats for O Foods. We have the capability and willingness to contract grow select varieties to provide consistent functionality and nutrition. Our conventional and organic milled products will be supplied in bags (50 lb or 25 kg), super sacs, and certain products in bulk rail or truck. We will be dedicated to only milling oats and strict measures will be taken to offer gluten-free options. Our products include:
Whole and Steel Cut Groats
Oat groats are the whole intact kernel after the inedible husk or hull is removed through the dehulling process. The groats are then steamed and kiln heated to provide a toasted flavor, enhanced functional characteristics and deactivated enzymes to extend shelf stability. Steel cut groats are produced through a unique process where a perforated drum positions the whole groat to be cut with steel knives into smaller pieces. While the nutritional composition remains intact, the cooking time is dramatically decreased compared to the whole groat.
Large Rolled Oats
Rolled oats or “old-fashioned” oats are produced by steam flaking whole oat groats to specific thicknesses to meet customer applications. Rolled oats provide excellent texture and visual appeal in many traditional products like cookies and granola bars as well as newer trends like overnight oats and baked oatmeal. Enhanced controls of temperature and time during the steam process will meet today’s strict food safety standards.
Quick and Instant Oats
Steel cut groats are steam flaked to produce quick and instant oats. Specific customer requirements can be met by adjusting flake thickness, granulation, and kilning parameters. These factors influence water absorption which is critical for many applications. For hot cereal products, we can customize to meet your requirements for taste, texture and nutrition.
Whole Oat Flour
Whole oat flour is made by grinding and sifting whole or steel cut kilned groats. The excellent nutritional profile and taste are well suited for cereals and baked products. Many of the most popular cold cereals are made with whole oat flour. The soluble fiber content of whole oat flour is not only good for your heart, but it can act as a natural thickener in soups or sauces.
